1995 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-012WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Wavy steps mark this 1995 Denver cent reverse: trails run across the Lincoln Memorial's stairway so that the steps under columns 5 to 8 look bent. TrailDies files it as 1995D-1DER-012WS, a 1995 cent from Denver listed among its reverse design extensions (DER) as file 012, with WS standing for wavy steps. The lines run at 190°, a touch west of due south. On the middle-die-state coin described, the obverse has nothing noted, while a gouge sits low in bay 9 of the Memorial. Michael Pope found it. Most specialists trace wavy steps to a rotary buff used to polish the die; some trace them to the die moving against the hub.
