Description

Trail die varieties preserve faint ghostly impressions transferred from a previously hubbed die during the hubbing process, and this 1995-D Lincoln Memorial Cent designated 1995D-1DER-004WS by Trail Dies documents such a transfer on the reverse. The variety is recorded at Stage B, where both obverse and reverse have reached mid-die state. Obverse die markers include die gouges over the VDB initials — Victor David Brenner's designer mark at the truncation of Lincoln's bust — while the reverse carries die gouges beneath the right base of the Lincoln Memorial building. These markers distinguish this die pair from other trail die varieties documented for the 1995-D cent. The "WS" suffix indicates a classification within the Trail Dies attribution system that categorizes the specific nature of the trail die transfer.
