Error
Description
Moderate fluting line extension into the stylobate under columns 2 and 3, with moderate step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7, and 8 at an offset direction of 180 degrees marks this Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent trail die variety. Trail die effects result from partial contact between die faces during press operation. Die markers at Stage C: obverse is LDS with none noted; reverse is LDS with a series of five die gouges under the left Memorial building base and an old die scrape in the bottom of bay 1. The five die gouges clustered under the left base and the pre-existing bay 1 scrape provide reliable attribution markers independent of the trail die diagnostic. Struck in copper-plated zinc at 2.5 grams and 19.05 mm at the Denver Mint during Gasparro's long-running Memorial reverse design era.
