Description

The trails on 1987D-1DER-008T are flat and broad, so the affected letters look thicker rather than streaked. TrailDies sees them on the motto letters EPU, on OF, and on the E and S that end STATES, all at 030°, north-northeast, up and slightly right. Its code gives 1987D for Denver, 1 for the denomination, DER for the reverse side, 008 for the file and T, a trails die. Its coin sits at stage B, the middle die state. Two small die dots sit beneath the E of LIBERTY, while a gouge lies on the top bar of UNITED's E. George Antenucci found the die. Trails are usually explained as the result of polishing the die with a rotary buff, while a minority attributes them to the die moving against the hub.
