Description
1987D-1DER-006T has moderate trails across much of the reverse. They appear on the final S of STATES, on OF, on the motto letters EPU, on ONE, and at the left corners of the stylobate. They run at 300°, west-northwest, up and to the left. The number begins with the date and Denver mark (1987D), continues with the cent's denomination 1 and the reverse tag DER, and ends with file 006 and the trails letter T. The obverse of the coin it describes is graded MDS (stage B) with no markers. The reverse is graded late, with a strong flow line coming off the bottom of the C in AMERICA and a small gouge left of the T in CENT. Michael Pope found the die. Trails are usually attributed to polishing the die with a rotary buff, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted.
- Reverse is LDS – a strong flow line is seen from the bottom of the C in AMERICA. A small die gouge is seen to the left of the T in CENT.
