1986-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-017

Description

Classified as D/D Southeast — a diagonal displacement less common than cardinal-direction shifts — WRPM-017 on the 1986-D Lincoln Memorial cent has no known cross-references. The obverse die markers include a die gouge between the upper E in WE and T in TRUST, a pair of die gouges east of Lincoln's eyebrow, and a die gouge right of the upper 8 in the date. On the reverse, a small die gouge appears between the lower O and N in ONE, and a die scratch runs north-northwest from the left side of column 12 into upper bay 11. The southeast displacement means traces of the secondary D should be visible protruding from the lower-right portion of the primary mint mark, distinguishing WRPM-017 from the north, south, west, and tilted varieties cataloged for the same date. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm from the 1986 mintage of 4,442,866,698 cents.
