Submitted by James Cassin with extensive die marker documentation, WDDO-001 on the 1986-D Lincoln Memorial cent exhibits slight doubling concentrated on the lower ear of Lincoln's portrait — a focused area of hub doubling that demands careful magnified examination to detect. Cassin's submission included a comprehensive two-section die marker inventory: the first section documents primary obverse and reverse diagnostics, while the second section provides supplementary markers that further anchor attribution. This dual-section documentation makes WDDO-001 one of the more thoroughly characterized doubled dies for the 1986-D date, giving authenticators multiple independent verification points. The 1986 Denver mintage of 4,442,866,698 cents produced on copper-plated zinc planchets generated an enormous base of coins, yet doubled dies remain scarce relative to total output because each doubled die variety originates from a single defective working die among thousands used during the production year. The slight classification means the doubling falls at the lower end of the visibility spectrum, rewarding patient cherry-pickers who examine the ear region under 10x magnification with directional lighting. Numerous other die scratches also run SSW to NNE to the right of the bust and above the date. Reverse: A die gouge can be found below the vertical bar of the R in AMERICA. A small die gouge can be found inside the lower E of CENT.
