Description

A D/D Tilted variety with no known cross-references, WRPM-015 on the 1986-D Lincoln Memorial cent shows angular displacement of the secondary mint mark. The cataloger has noted the mint mark placement is higher and the repunching not as strong as on WRPM-008, providing a useful comparative benchmark. Like WRPM-014, this variety was paired with two different reverse dies during production. Stage A obverse markers include two small die gouges under E in WE and a die scratch through UST in TRUST. By Stage B, the WE gouges remain but the TRUST scratch has worn away, while new markers develop: gouges under G and D in GOD, and a strong gouge above the 6 in the date. Reverse Stage A shows gouges right of and under R in AMERICA and a strong gouge on the base of column 11. Stage B brings a new reverse die: a small gouge under the right arm of the last A in AMERICA, a gouge under column 12, and a gouge right of U in UNITED. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm.
