Error
Description
A D/D Southwest variety originally cataloged by CONECA as RPM #5 before being delisted, WRPM-009 on the 1986-D Lincoln Memorial cent has no other known cross-references. The variety spans two die stages with detailed markers. Stage A shows strong RPM doubling, with a die gouge northeast of the D in VDB as a key obverse diagnostic; the reverse carries a die gouge in lower bay 1 and two die gouges above D in UNITED at the rim. By Stage B, the mint mark doubling has weakened, though the VDB die gouge remains visible, and a light die gouge under I in IN appears as an additional marker. Reverse Stage B retains earlier gouges, plus a new die gouge under E in STATES. This two-stage narrative traces the die from diagnostic-rich production through the inevitable weakening of extended service. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm from the 1986 mintage of 4,442,866,698 cents.
