1986-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-005
Error
Description
A D/D South variety showing the secondary impression displaced downward, WRPM-005 on the 1986-D Lincoln Memorial cent is cross-referenced to CONECA RPM #10 and Coppercoins 1986D-1MM-010. The obverse carries a rich diagnostic inventory: light north-south die scratches between I and B in LIBERTY, parallel die scratches running northeast from Lincoln's eyebrow and nose, a die gouge southeast of the S in TRUST, a die gouge in Lincoln's hair under D in GOD, heavy east-west die scratches behind Lincoln's head, and a die gouge on the shoulder south of Y in LIBERTY. Reverse markers include a die gouge right of the upper F in OF, a die gouge well below the second A in AMERICA, and a die gouge in upper bay 2. This volume of markers makes WRPM-005 one of the most thoroughly characterized varieties in the 1986-D RPM catalog. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm.
