1986-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-003

Description

Listed as CONECA RPM #7 and Coppercoins 1986D-1MM-007, WRPM-003 on the 1986-D Lincoln Memorial cent features a mint mark placement that is higher than that of WRPM-014 — a comparative detail useful when distinguishing between these two varieties. The obverse die markers include a tiny die gouge in front of Lincoln's upper forehead and light die scratches between B and E in LIBERTY. On the reverse, a die scratch connects N and E in ONE, a die gouge extends from under the right side of the first U in PLURIBUS, and die flow lines run from the left side of the Memorial into the UN in UNITED. The higher mint mark placement relative to WRPM-014 is itself a diagnostic: collectors comparing potential matches should note where the D sits vertically. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm, from the 1986 Denver mintage of 4,442,866,698 cents.
