Description
On the John Quincy Adams Presidential dollar, 2008P(JQA)-100DEO-001T has light trails from the PRES and the D of PRESIDENT, pointing 270°, due west, toward the left edge. The code starts with 2008P for the year and Philadelphia mint, adds (JQA) for Adams' initials and 100 for the dollar, then DEO, which puts the extension on the obverse, and 001T, the trail-type file numbered 001. Tanaka Davis found the die. The stage B obverse has no markers, but the reverse shows a small gouge in the field below and to the right of the torch held by the Statue of Liberty. Polishing with a rotary buff is the usual cause given for trails; a smaller camp blames die movement against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “A”, obverse is EDS – small die dot on Monroe’s forehead.
- Reverse is EDS – None noted.
