1974 (D) Eisenhower Dollar - Variety WMHR-001

Description

1974-D WMHR-001 is a reverse master hub doubling listed on the 1974-D Eisenhower dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. A spread toward the center shows on ONE DOLLAR, the craters and the designer's initials. Wexler notes the obverse and reverse die markers differ on each affected working die. Wexler credits various submitters, and CONECA lists it as SD-2-R-II-C+VI. Wexler's comments explain that a master hub was meant to be used for several years, and working dies with the identical doubling exist for 1974, 1977 and 1978. How the doubling looks on a given coin depends on wear to the master hub, the master die, the working hub and the working die, and on wear to the coin itself.
