1964 (D) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-008

Description

1964-D WDDO-008 is a doubled die obverse on the 1964-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A very close spread toward the center appears on the lower queue, the designer's initials, the date and IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, an extremely strong gouge leaves the rim and crosses the Y in LIBERTY at its upper right; a scratch starts at the rim near 9:30 and heads east to the middle of the nose; a heavy crack, dotted with many small die chips, crosses the bust's base; and the bottom right side of the ribbon has a small gouge (dot). On the reverse, a short gouge heads south off the upper bar of the F in OF; two scratches head NE off the tip of the leaf over the second L in DOLLAR; a strong crack descends the eagle's right wing and reaches the upper Q in QUARTER; die chips sit on the right wing under the T in UNITED; a crack crosses the eagle's beak and lower head; and on the upper left wing there is a crack with small die chips under the M in AMERICA.
