Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1964-D 25¢ WDDO-001 and cross-referenced as CONECA 1-O-II and Cherrypickers FS-25-1964D-101, this Denver Mint Washington Quarter displays a spread toward the center on IGWT combined with a counterclockwise spread from a pivot at approximately 12:00 on the date. This dual-class spread creates doubling visible across multiple obverse elements. On the obverse, a die scratch runs SW from the lower N of IN, and another runs NW/SE near the rim to the left of the first T in TRUST. The reverse carries two heavy die scratches running SW/NE between the D of UNITED and the first S in STATES. The Cherrypickers listing as FS-25-1964D-101 confirms this variety's significance among Washington Quarter doubled dies. Struck in 90% silver, the 1964-D represents the final year of silver composition for Washington Quarters before the Coinage Act of 1965 transitioned to clad.
