1964 (D) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1964-D WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1964-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. On the BERTY of LIBERTY there is a close counterclockwise (CCW) spread. On the obverse, the ribbon has a short, strong scratch at its lower left. A crack crosses the bust's base, reaching out into the field, where it bends NW to the left of the bust; it runs into the lower queue as well. A long scratch heads NNW off the second T in TRUST from its upper left, a crack in the upper hair runs on into the field under the IB of LIBERTY, and LIBERTY's E and R have a horizontal scratch between their lower parts. On the reverse, a crack starts at the lower I of UNITED and continues onto the eagle's right wing. Joe Feld submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
