1964 (D) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1964-D WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1964-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A close counterclockwise (CCW) spread shows up on LIBERTY's letters as strong notches, both top and bottom. On the obverse, a scratch links the lower U and upper S in TRUST; a crack crosses the bust's base, with die chips over the 4 and just left of the ribbon; a WSW/ENE crack crosses the upper forehead and enters the hair; and an E/W crack crosses the upper hair under the ER of LIBERTY. On the reverse, a scratch runs from the D in UNITED, at its lower right, to the first S in STATES at its upper left; a crack descends the eagle's lower right wing; on the right wing, two die chips sit under the T in UNITED; and a large die chip lies on the eagle's head. Joe Feld submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 2-O-V.
