1964 (D) Kennedy Half Dollar - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-015

Description

1964-D WDDO-015 is a doubled die obverse on the 1964-D Kennedy half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is a Class II spread toward the center on ERTY of LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST (IGWT), the date, the designer's initials, and across the hair on the top and back of the head, with TY of LIBERTY tripled. On the obverse, a scratch descends from the underside of the nose, just right of its tip. The reverse has a flared G, and the reverse die is WRPM-013, a D/D Tilted (Rotated). Lou Coles submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 8-O-II. Wexler notes it was formerly WDDO-026 and was given its new number to fill gaps in the listings after the master die doubling and doubled working hubs were identified. Wexler also says it closely resembles WDDO-011 but is clearly a different die. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
