1964-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-014
Error
Description
Following immediately after WDDO-013 in the 1964-D Kennedy Half Dollar catalog, WDDO-014 represents another individual die that received a misaligned hub impression during the frantic pace of production at the Denver Mint. The 1964-D Kennedy issue was struck entirely in 90% silver, the last regular-issue silver half dollar composition, making every variety from this date doubly collectible for both error and silver content. Roberts' high-relief portrait features the presidential seal at the neckline truncation, hair waves radiating from the part, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST in fine serif lettering beneath the bust, all areas where hub doubling can manifest with varying intensity. No die markers are currently documented for WDDO-014. Cross-referenced under the Wexler system as 1964-D 50¢ WDDO-014, with no other known attributions. Authenticated specimens typically surface in circulated grades, having entered commerce alongside billions of other Kennedy halves before variety awareness identified them as distinct.
