1963 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-023

Description

1963 WDDO-023 is a doubled die obverse on the 1963 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class II spread toward the center appears on IN GOD WE TRUST, and slightly on the Y of LIBERTY, the ribbon's bottom, the designer's initials and the date. On the obverse, a scratch extends south from a point just left of the bottom of the first T of TRUST, two parallel scratches extend northwest off the top of the G in GOD, and several scratches extend northwest from Washington's nose. On the reverse, three parallel SW-to-NE scratches lie between the bottoms of the D in UNITED and the first S in STATES, a small gouge sits under the second T of STATES, a crack crosses the BUS of PLURIBUS and reaches the left wing, and a crack descends the outside of the right wing. Tony Russo submitted the variety. Crawford lists it as CDDO-002.
