1963 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1963 WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1963 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A spread toward the center appears on the L of LIBERTY, the lower queue, the designer's initials, the date and IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, a scratch heads SSW off the R in TRUST from its lower right, a crack crosses the bust's base and enters the lower queue, and an E/W crack crosses the upper forehead and continues through the upper hair. On the reverse, a crack descends the eagle's right wing as far as the leaf over the Q in QUARTER, and another crosses PLURIBUS, then follows the eagle's left wing down to the C in AMERICA. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
