1963 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

1963 WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1963 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A spread toward the center appears on the ribbon's bottom, the designer's initials, the date and IN GOD WE TRUST, and slightly on LIBERTY. On the obverse, small gouges lie under TRUST's T and R, a scratch leaves the chin heading WSW and reaches the rim over IN, a crack crosses the bust's base, and an E/W crack crosses the upper forehead and continues through the upper hair. On the reverse, a small gouge sits between the tops of the E and P of E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the lower left branch has scratches running parallel to it. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
