1963 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1963 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1963 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong spread toward the center appears on the lower queue, the designer's initials, the date and IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, the B in LIBERTY has a die dent at its upper left, a scratch heads SW off the R in TRUST from its lower right, a light crack crosses the bust's base, and an E/W crack runs through the upper hair. On the reverse, a crack descends the eagle's right wing, and another crosses the leaves over the AR of DOLLAR. Whaden Curtis submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-O-II, and its Cherrypickers number is FS-25-1963-101 (023). Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
