1963 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-017

Description

1963 WDDO-017 is a doubled die obverse on the 1963 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A very close spread toward the center appears on the lower queue, IN and the TRU of TRUST. Obverse Stage A has a scratch linking the R in TRUST, at its top left, with the N of IN at its bottom right, gouges on the Y in LIBERTY along its upper left side, and a light crack across the bust's base. On Obverse Stage B, abrasion has removed the Stage A scratch, the crack at the bust's base has grown much heavier and now reaches the lower queue, and many scratches now appear all over the obverse. Reverse Stage A has a crack down the eagle's right wing, and Reverse Stage B has a gouge beside the F in OF, right of its center. John A. Wexler submitted the variety.
