Description
1961P-5DER-001T is TrailDies' file for a 1961 Philadelphia Jefferson nickel with trails on the reverse. The number reads date and mint (1961P), denomination (5), side (DER, reverse design extension), file (001) and type (T). Moderate lines run from OF, from AMERI in AMERICA and from the word CENTS, heading west at 280°, a touch north of due west. On the late-die-state coin shown, a long vertical scratch sits in the field left of Monticello, and the obverse has a scratch low in the queue under the bow of Jefferson's hair ribbon. Joey Kim of Hawaii found it. Polishing of the die with a rotary tool is the usual explanation for trails; some instead attribute them to the die moving against the hub.

- Stage “C“, obverse is LDS – a die scratch is seen in the bottom of the queue below the bow.
- Reverse is LDS – a large vertical die scratch is seen in the field to the left of the Monticello building.
