Description

Tracked across four die stages by VarietyVista as UVC-672/DMR-040, RPM-029 is a repunched mintmark variety on the 1960-D Large Date Lincoln Memorial cent. Stages A and D remain unconfirmed, with documented diagnostics concentrated in the middle stages. Stage A: EDS (unconfirmed). Stage B (MDS): obverse is MDS, light die crack on columns 1, 2, and 12, small die chip on right cornice. Stage C (LMDS): obverse is LMDS, die chip on column 1, larger die chip on right cornice. Stage D: LDS (unconfirmed). The growth of the right cornice die chip from small to larger between Stages B and C provides a clear progression marker. The 1960-D Large Date Lincoln Memorial cent occupies a distinctive place in variety collecting because the mid-year hub transition to the Small Date design created an unusually well-defined production boundary — dies used before the transition are exclusively Large Date, and the hand-punching of mintmarks during this era ensured that each die carried a unique mintmark application susceptible to repunching errors.
