1960-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-021
Error
Description
Punched D/D Northeast according to VarietyVista, RPM-021 is a repunched mintmark variety on the 1960-D Large Date Lincoln Memorial cent that spans six die stages across two reverse die pairings (UVC-662/DMR-030 and UVC-2946/DMR-134). The secondary mintmark's northward visibility is noted as strengthening between Stages A and B, an unusual characteristic suggesting the repunch may have been partially obscured by initial die finishing. Under the first reverse (UVC-662/DMR-030): Stage A (EDS): weak secondary mintmark to the north, die scratches NW-SE through date, minute die chip on upper C of CENT. Stage B (EMDS): strong secondary mintmark to the north, light die crack on column 12. Stage C (MDS): obverse is MDS, die chips on column 12. Stage D (LDS): die crack over V.D.B., die break at right eave tip, die break on columns 11 and 12. Stage E (VLDS): obverse is VLDS, die crack off lower left building. Under the second reverse (UVC-2946/DMR-134): Stage F (VLDS): obverse is VLDS, reverse die changed at EDS, die scratches E-W on reverse. The die's progression to VLDS before the reverse change indicates this obverse was approaching terminal deterioration when the second reverse was paired with it.
