Description

Featuring a triple-punched mintmark described as D/D/D north, serifs, RPM-012 is a repunched mintmark variety on the 1960-D Large Date Lincoln Memorial cent. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-650/DMR-018, this variety spans three documented die stages. Stage A presents the triple-punched D at early condition, where the serif displacement is most clearly visible — the fine terminal strokes of the secondary and tertiary impressions can be distinguished from the primary mintmark before die wear smooths over these delicate details. Stage B advances to intermediate condition with developing die markers. By Stage C, the die reaches later production phase. The northward offset with serif involvement indicates that the initial mintmark placement was too far south, and the two correction punches moved progressively northward toward the intended position. Serif-level displacement is among the finest diagnostic detail visible on repunched mintmarks, as the thin horizontal strokes at the top and bottom of the D letter are easily separated by even small positional shifts. Among the 1960-D Large Date RPM varieties, RPM-012 joins RPM-004, RPM-007, RPM-009, and RPM-014 as one of five triple-punched entries — a concentration that speaks to the challenges Denver die makers faced in consistently positioning mintmarks during this high-volume production year.
