1955 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-002

Description

Second in the documented sequence of repunched mintmarks for the 1955 San Francisco Mint Roosevelt Dime, this variety preserves evidence of the manual mintmark application process that was standard practice at the United States Mint through 1989. Before that date, individual mintmark letters were hand-punched into each working die using a small steel punch and mallet, and imprecise placement, double-tapping, or repositioning produced the overlapping mintmark impressions that define RPM varieties. Cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #2, with the notation "PHOTOS NEEDED" indicating that the variety is confirmed but awaiting photographic documentation in the CONECA files. Also listed under Wexler Variety ID: 1955-S 10¢ WRPM-002, attributed by the Wexler Team. The 90% silver composition adds intrinsic value to any variety from this era. Roosevelt Dime RPM varieties from the 1950s San Francisco Mint are actively pursued by specialists, as the relatively small mintages translate to fewer surviving examples compared to higher-output dates.
