Description

Holding the lead catalog position for the 1955-S date, this Roosevelt Silver Dime RPM-001 documented by VarietyVista shows S/S West. Die markers UVC-271 / DMR-002 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with the reverse at LDS, a die chip on the chin, and two die cracks in the upper hair. S/S West. The chip and cracks in Stage C document significant late-state deterioration on Roosevelt's portrait. Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 90% silver and 10% copper, weighing 2.50 grams with a 17.91 mm diameter, this dime represents the final decade of silver Roosevelt production before the 1965 switch to copper-nickel clad.
