Description

On the 1955-S Roosevelt dime, RPM-002 documents a mintmark first punched east of its final position, producing the S/S East attribution — the secondary impression displaced rightward and still visible beneath the corrected S. VarietyVista codes UVC-746 and DMR-003 record this variety across three die state stages. Stage A (EDS) and Stage B (MDS) are both unconfirmed in the reference population. Stage C is the best-documented state: two parallel die scratches run from the torch to the right branch on the reverse in LDS, while the obverse is confirmed LDS. The parallel torch-to-branch scratches in late die state provide reliable attribution anchors for Stage C specimens. Roosevelt dimes were struck in 90% silver at San Francisco through 1964, and the 1955-S saw mintage sufficient to make it one of the more obtainable dates in the silver series. RPM varieties on silver Roosevelt dimes attract a dual collecting audience: RPM series specialists and type collectors seeking cherrypicked silver-alloy examples. The eastward displacement is best examined under 5x-10x magnification at the mintmark serif edges, where the secondary S impression is most legible.
