1955 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001

Description

Displaying an S/S repunch displaced to the east, the 1955-S WRPM-001 Roosevelt dime preserves a secondary mintmark impression visible alongside the primary S beneath the torch on the reverse. During this era, San Francisco mintmarks were individually hand-punched into each working die, and any lateral shift between successive strikes left the earlier position partially exposed. No specific obverse or reverse die markers have been noted in the Bordner files for this die beyond the repunching itself. Cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #1 and RPM #2 under different classification systems, this variety is cataloged by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 1955-S 10¢ WRPM-001. Roosevelt dime RPMs from the mid-1950s represent an era when the hand-punching process was nearing its final decade at the U.S. Mint. Collectors seeking early Roosevelt dime varieties often find RPMs among the most accessible die varieties for the series, as the mintmark area provides a concentrated diagnostic zone that can be examined under modest magnification.
