1955-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-007
Error
Description
Seventh repunched mintmark in the Wexler Team's catalog for the 1955 Denver Roosevelt Dime, WRPM-007 presents a D/D Tilted or Rotated displacement — the second mintmark punch applied at a different angle, producing overlapping elements that diverge angularly rather than in a simple directional shift. Submitted by Tony Russo, the variety carries die markers on both sides that provide supplementary confirmation. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 1955-D 10-cent WRPM-007, no additional cross-references are known. The 1955-D Roosevelt Dime was struck in 90% silver at Denver, nine years into the series that debuted in 1946 to honor President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Every working die received its D mintmark through hand-punching — a steel letter punch positioned and struck with a hammer blow into the die face. Tilted or rotated displacements occur when the die setter inadvertently turns the punch between applications, creating a characteristic angular overlap distinct from directional shifts. D/D Tilted (Rotated)Die Markers: Obverse: Short south by east die scratch from the bottom of the left leg of the R in LIBERTY. NNW/SSE die scratches on the nose. Reverse: North by west/south by east die scratches above E PLU of EPU and the lower olive. E/W die scratches centered at the lower opening of the N in UNITED. Die gouge at the upper left of the A in STATES. N/S die scratch through the entire right of the E in AMERICA.Submitted By: Tony RussoCross References: None known Obverse: Short N/S die scratch right of the lower area of the 1 in the date.
