1955-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-002

Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1955-D 10¢ WRPM-002, this Roosevelt Silver Dime exhibits a D/D/D repunched mintmark with the secondary impressions tilted or rotated relative to the primary — a triple-punched mintmark where the D was applied three times at slightly different angles, creating a complex layered pattern more intricate than a standard two-punch RPM. The cross-references note this is a replacement listing because the original files were not present in the Bordner files, indicating an archival gap in the original documentation that required reconstruction. Obverse die markers are extensive: die scratches run northeast to southwest through the 55 in 1955, numerous die scratches appear behind Roosevelt's head running mostly north to south, and heavy die scratches course north-northeast to south-southwest throughout Roosevelt's nose. Reverse markers include die scratches running southwest from the lower torch to northeast in ONE, a die gouge on the right side of the upper I in UNITED, a die gouge left of the upper O in OF, die scratches through the upper M in AMERICA, and a heavy die scratch through the upper IN in AMERICA. The Roosevelt Dime was designed by John R. Sinnock and struck at the Denver Mint in 1955 in 90% silver at 2.50 grams with a 17.9 mm diameter. The extensive network of die scratches across both faces — particularly the heavy scratches through Roosevelt's nose and the date — provides a rich constellation of attribution markers that, combined with the triple-punch rotational RPM, create one of the more diagnostically complex repunched mintmark varieties in the Roosevelt Dime series.
