1951 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-008

Description

1951-S WRPM-008 is a repunched mint mark on the 1951-S Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S/S, West and Tilted (Rotated). The obverse is a late die state (LDS), with the designer's initials JS almost entirely abraded away. Strong N/S scratches cover the mouth, cheek, nose, neck and forehead and run through the hair, and NE/SW scratches mark the edge of the nose. Strong scratches extend S off the back of the head, close to the point where the neck meets the hairline, and old scratches extend NNW off the chin. Large gouges sit low between LIBERTY's R and T, under the tip of the nose, and under the L in LIBERTY. On the reverse, thin, very weak N/S scratches cross the greater part of the central design. Scrapes from the finger feeder, old ones, cross the first A in AMERICA, the F in OF and STA in STATES. A slightly curved scratch extends NW off the olive branch stem, and a gouge touches AMERICA's first A at its upper right. Eric Axtell submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
