1951-S Repunched Mintmark WRPM-005

Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1951-S 10¢ WRPM-005 and submitted by Jeff Longueuay, this Roosevelt Silver Dime displays an S/S East repunched mintmark where the secondary S impression is displaced to the east of the primary — indicating the initial mintmark punch landed slightly too far west before the corrective second strike established the final position. Obverse die markers include a short die scratch running north from the lower forehead area, a north-by-east/south-by-west die scratch inside the ear at left center, a small die chip dot at the left lower side of the L in LIBERTY, and north-south die scratches at the jaw area of Roosevelt’s profile. Reverse markers include north-south die scratches at the last U in PLURIBUS, a small die chip dot centered above the O in ONE, and die chips below the last T and the E of STATES. The extensive die marker documentation across both faces provides a comprehensive identification framework that extends well beyond the mintmark repunching itself. No additional cross-references are currently known. The Roosevelt Silver Dime was designed by John R. Sinnock and struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1951 in 90% silver composition (90% silver, 10% copper) weighing 2.50 grams with a diameter of 17.9 mm.
