Description

RPM-002 on the 1951-S Roosevelt Dime shows the S mintmark punched over a previous S impression in a different position, attributed by VarietyVista. Die markers are UVC-216 and DMR-003. Stage A is early die state (unconfirmed). The 1951-S Roosevelt Dime was struck at San Francisco in the 90% silver, 10% copper alloy standard for dimes through 1964. San Francisco applied mintmarks by hand-punch to working dies before striking, and the repositioning of the S punch before it fully set produced the secondary impression catalogued as RPM-002. The 1951-S is a mid-series Roosevelt Dime from the early post-war decade, struck in substantial quantities for general circulation. Die markers UVC-216 and DMR-003 furnish the specific two-sided diagnostics that identify this die pair within the VarietyVista 1951-S dime RPM catalogue. Silver-era S-mint Roosevelt Dime RPM varieties are actively pursued by cherry-pickers who scan raw silver dimes for mintmark repunchings, combining the hunt for die varieties with the tangible reward of finding 90% silver in circulation or dealer stock.
