1951-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-004
Error
Description
Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-501, this VarietyVista-documented 1951-D Washington Silver Quarter features a D/D South displacement with the obverse also classified as ODV-005 (Shifted Die Obverse), creating a multi-variety specimen. Die markers span two pairings: UVC-0764 / DMR-011 for Stages A-C and UVC-0765 / DMR-012 for Stage D. Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with a die gouge in eagle's left wing at MDS and obverse at MDS; Stage C with reverse at LDS, a die crack across bust extending into field in front and into queue behind at LDS, and a die crack across upper hair extending into field at forehead; Stage D with reverse at LDS and obverse die changed at MDS. The bust crack extending into both the front and rear fields documents a fracture spanning the full width of Washington's portrait. Designed by John Flanagan, struck at Denver in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams.
