1951 (D) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1951-D WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1951-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A very close spread toward the center appears on LIBERTY, where the lower R shows it best. On the obverse, three E/W cracks cross the upper hair, and the lowest of them reaches into the forehead. A crack crosses the bust's base, running into the lower ribbon on one side and to the top of the first 1 in the date on the other. On the reverse, a crack descends the eagle's right wing from the E of E PLURIBUS UNUM, and another runs from the US of PLURIBUS down the eagle's left wing, ending under the I in AMERICA. Ralph Huntzinger submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
