Description

WDDO-003 on the 1951-D Washington Quarter was attributed by the Wexler Team and catalogued as Wexler Variety ID 1951-D 25¢ WDDO-003. The obverse exhibits a close spread toward the center on LIBERTY — a tight, inward-directed doubling on the primary legend — along with slight Class VI extra thickness on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, the designer's initials, and the ribbon. Class VI doubling (distended hub doubling) produces a widened or thickened appearance rather than a distinct secondary impression, and its presence on the motto, date, initials, and ribbon simultaneously indicates a hub-level doubling event affecting the full obverse design. Die markers include a die crack running across the base of the bust. The 1951-D Washington Quarter was struck in 90% silver at the Denver Mint. Cross-reference: Wexler Variety ID: 1951-D 25¢ WDDO-003. Strong NW/SE die scratches throughout the lower obverse. Strong N/S die scratches throughout the upper obverse. E/W die scratches through the R in LIBERTY. A few N/S die scratches below IGWT.
