Description
Documented by VarietyVista, this 1951-D Washington Silver Quarter exhibits a D/D South repunched mintmark with the obverse die also listed as ODV-005 (Shifted Die Obverse), making it a dual-variety coin. Die markers UVC-0762 / DMR-009 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C with a die crack down the eagle's right wing at LDS and a die crack across the forehead and hair at LDS. The dual die cracks on both the reverse eagle wing and obverse portrait at Stage C document simultaneous structural fatigue across both faces. Designed by John Flanagan, struck at Denver in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm. The RPM-plus-SDO combination gives collectors two distinct variety classifications attributable from a single specimen.
