1951-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Holding the top position in the repunched mintmark catalog for the 1951 Denver Washington Quarter, RPM-001 shows a D/D South displacement and carries a dual obverse attribution as ODV-006, the Thin Motto variety — a die where IN GOD WE TRUST appears with noticeably thinner letterforms than standard. Documented by VarietyVista under UVC-0761 and DMR-008, die stages progress through increasing structural failure: Stage B at mid die state develops die cracks descending down the eagle's right wing, crossing the bust, and traversing the upper hair. Stage C in late die state adds a crack across the tip of the eagle's wing. The combination of repunched mintmark and thin motto on the same die creates a dual-feature obverse where both the mintmark and the motto lettering carry distinctive anomalies. The 1951-D was struck in 90% silver at Denver during the post-war era, and the Thin Motto variant adds collectibility beyond the RPM itself. The progressive cracking across wing, bust, and hair documents the die's deterioration, and the southward D displacement places the secondary mintmark impression below the primary.
