1949 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-008

Description

1949-S WRPM-008 is a repunched mint mark on the 1949-S Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S Tilted (Rotated). The obverse has old N/S scratches through the date and thin scratches heading N off the nose ahead of the eye. Two thin scratches extend W/NW off the upper lip, and a gouge touches the neck right of TRUST's last T. The reverse has many thin N/S and NW/SE scratches across the fields, and many thin circular scratches circle the center, passing through the olive branch and the torch. A strong E/W die scrape crosses the upper olive branch, strong NW/SE scratches cross NUM in UNUM, and strong N/S scratches lie between the oak branch and AM in AMERICA. Left of the flame is a strong NW/SE scratch, strong scratches extend S from the torch base and the mint mark, and a series of strong gouges crosses the N in ONE at its bottom right corner. Eric Axtell submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as RPM #2.
