1949-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

The 1949-S Roosevelt Dime RPM-002 records a northwest direction of S/S secondary punch shift and is cataloged under UVC-188 and DMR-003. Struck in 90% silver, the 1949-S Roosevelt Dime features John R. Sinnock's portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt and carries Sinnock's JS initials at the base of the portrait. Three die stages are documented. Stage A is early die state, currently unconfirmed. Stage B is the most descriptively rich phase: the reverse is mid-die state, and a heavy die scratch is present along the lower neckline — a reliable obverse mid-die state marker. Stage C is late die state, currently unconfirmed. The Stage B neckline scratch is the most useful single attribution marker for identifying this variety on circulated examples where the secondary mintmark detail may be worn.
