Error
Description
A D/D West repunched mintmark distinguishes this 1948-D Jefferson Nickel, documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-361 / DMR-004. The progression culminates in architecturally specific die cracking: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS with a die crack from the right dome running south between pillars 3 and 4 on the Monticello reverse, and the obverse also at LDS. The crack tracing from the dome between specific numbered pillars provides an exceptionally precise architectural reference for die identification. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighing 5.0 grams with a 21.21 mm diameter. Struck at the Denver Mint in 1948, three years after the wartime silver alloy period ended.
