1947 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Over Mint Mark WOMM-001 / OMM-001

Description

The 1947-S OMM-001, which Wexler numbers WOMM-001, is an over mintmark on the Roosevelt dime with an S punched over a D (S/D in both catalogs). Both cite it as FS-501 in the Cherrypickers' Guide; Wexler writes FS-10-1947S-501 (013). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties records a short WSW scratch leaving the rim between the R and T of LIBERTY and short NNE-to-SSW scratches right of the top of the Y. On the reverse the S is a Sans Serif S; nearly horizontal scratches cross the lower CA of AMERICA, a scratch rises from the inside bottom of the D of DIME, another runs SSE from the bottom of the mintmark, SSW-to-NNE scratches sit inside the top of the M of DIME, and further scratches are scattered across the reverse. Paul Funaiole submitted the coin. CONECA lists it as OMM #1, and Breen as #2735. VarietyVista describes the S as centered over the D, classes the reverse mintmark as MMS-003 (Sans Serif), and does not name a reporter. Under its marker codes UVC-168 and DMR-011, stages A and B (early and middle die states) are unconfirmed, and at stage C both sides are in a late die state. At stage D, under UVC-169 and DMR-012, the reverse is in a very late die state with N-S scratches, and the obverse has been changed to a new die in an early state.
