1947 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-005

Description

1947-S WRPM-005 is a repunched mint mark on the 1947-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S West: the extra S lies west of the primary. Obverse Stage A: north-south scratches above and below LIBERTY's ERTY; north-south scratches around the 19 of the date, ending in front of the profile; a chip at the back of the nose; an east-west scratch on the upper lip; two east-west scratches in the hair; and a chip in the hair below GOD's D. Obverse Stage B adds a gouge above TRUST's second T, and Obverse Stage C a gouge at the bottom right of TRUST's first T and another above the date's 4. For Obverse Stage D Wexler notes no markers. Reverse Stage A: north-south scratches over most of the reverse, gouges at the lower A of STATES, and gouges on AMERICA's last A. Reverse Stage B: gouges inside the lower E of ONE, with another gouge under the E's bottom edge. Reverse Stage C: east-west scratches under AMERICA. Reverse Stage D: a scratch through PLURIBUS's upper L; two east-west scratches from ONE's O to its N; and two scratches forming an X under PLURIBUS's S. Brian Ribar submitted Stages A and C, John Bordner Stage B, and Scott Rusch Stage D; Brian Ribar also took the photo of the RPM. Wexler lists no cross-references.
