1947-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-002
Error
Description
Bearing an S/S North displacement using MMS-004 (Trumpet Tail), this VarietyVista-documented 1947-S Lincoln Wheat Cent identifies the specific mintmark punch style with a flared terminal on the S's lower curve. Die markers span two pairings: UVC-291 / DMR-004 with Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with strong secondary mintmark at LMDS, medium die scratch north-south in front of chin, and reverse at LDS; Stage C with weak die scratch in front of chin at LDS and reverse at VLDS. UVC-292 / DMR-005: Stage D with medium secondary mintmark at VLDS and reverse die changed at MDS; Stage E with weak secondary mintmark at VLDS and die crack in lower right wheat grains at LDS. The chin die scratch progressing from medium to weak documents the same gradual surface wear that attenuates the secondary mintmark's visibility. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, struck at the San Francisco Mint.
