1946 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1946 WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong counterclockwise (CCW) spread appears on IN GOD WE TRUST, the designer's initials, the lower queue, the date and LIBERTY. On the obverse, a scratch heads ESE from beneath the upright of the L in LIBERTY, a scratch heads NE off the B from its lower right, a short, heavy scratch heads SSE off the R in TRUST from its upper right, and a crack crosses the bust's base. On the reverse, cracks descend both of the eagle's wings, gouges lie between UNITED's lower D and the first S in STATES, and a crack links the US of PLURIBUS with the upper left wing. Kevin Flynn submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
