Description
1946 WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. Extremely strong extra thickness appears on the lower queue, the designer's initials, the date, LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, a scratch leaves the rim between the date's 1 and 9 heading NW, a short scratch heads west off the E in LIBERTY at its top, a NW/SE scratch lies in the field left of the bust's base, and two parallel scratches head SW off the first T in TRUST from its lower left. The reverse is a minor doubled die too, listed in the Wexler files as 1946 WDDR-002, with a clockwise (CW) spread pivoting from about 6:00 on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Jim Lafferty submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 3-O-II+VI. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
